Top Cop: 10% Increase In Murders
There’s been a 10% increase in murders in Trinidad and Tobago.
The statistics came from Police Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher as she and the top brass of the Police Service appeared before a Joint Select Committee on National Security on Wednesday.
Commissioner Harewood-Christopher admitted that the Police Service is facing challenges in achieving some of its half year targets for 2023.
Reducing the theft of motor vehicles is also posing a challenge for the Police Service. The Police Commissioner said their target is a 10% reduction in the larceny of motor vehicles, but so far have only achieved a 1% reduction.
As for the crime detection rate in Trinidad and Tobago, the Commissioner said this stands at 29%.
