National youth players Caden Trestrail and Josiah Gobin scored two goals each as Fatima College kicked off the defence of its Secondary Schools Football League Boys Premier Division title with an 8-0 mauling of promoted Miracle Ministries Pentecostal at Fatima College Ground, Mucurapo Road, yesterday.

Winners of the season-opening NGC Cup contested against Coca-Cola Intercol winners Presentation College of San Fernando on September 6, Fatima was forced into a delayed start to their defence after their season opener against St Augustine Secondary was postponed on both Wednesday and Thursday last week.

However, at Mucurapo, there were no such problems with Trestrail firing the opener in the 28th minute, followed by Luke Correia in the 37th, and the former with his second of the contest a minute into time added-on at the end of the first half for a 3-0 lead against the visitors, who were coming off a 6-0 loss against Presentation.

In the second half, Michael Chaves, the reigning SSFL ‘Player of the Year’, made it 4-0 in the 59th to mark his return from a broken leg suffered in a T&T Premier League Tier II match for Queen’s Park Cricket Club last year, while Gobin got the fifth item for Fatima in the 61st.

Matthew Barrington then added his name to the scoresheet in the 63rd, quickly followed by a second ror Gobin in the 67th before Levi Smith capped off the scoring in the 87th to jumpstart the Hutson ‘Barber’ Charles-coached Fatima campaign.

Elsewhere, Presentation College, St. Anthony’s College, Naparima College, and Signal Hill Secondary all made it two wins on the trot.

Presentation College got a goal each from Isaiah Jacob and Caleb Boyce, his fifth in two matches, to edge past host Queen’s Royal College, who had Micah Nelson on target at St. Clair.

Down at Westmoorings, Jean-Marc Thomas netted an 89th winner to give St. Anthony’s College a similar 2-1 triumph over East Mucurapo.

Terique Theobald had given the ‘Westmooring Tigers’ the lead in the 29th, but Keysan Haynes drew East Mucurapo level in the 59th only for Thomas to bang in a late winner to the delight of the home supporters.

At Trincity, Naparima College got a pair of goals from Aaron Raymond in the 34th and 50th in a 3-2 win over Trinity College East.

Israel Joseph added the decisive item for ‘Naps’ in the 74th, while Trinity East College got it replies from Jonathan Emrith in the 37th and Anderson Barnwell in the 87th.

Over in Tobago, promoted Singal Hill Secondary also won 3-2 against visiting San Juan North Secondary thanks to items from Kyle James, Jermaine Morgan, and Israel Trim to cancel efforts from Jaheem Danclair and Jelani Valentine.

In the other matches, Arima North Secondary blanked St. Augustine Secondary 5-0, led by braces from Criston Gomez and Michael John; St. Benedict’s College whipped Speyside Secondary 3-1, and Malick Secondary humbled St. Mary’s College 3-1.
