Trinidad and Tobago names ex-Man Utd star Yorke head coach
Trinidad and Tobago has named Dwight Yorke head coach of its men’s national team.
The former Manchester United and Aston Villa star led the Soca Warriors to the only World Cup in their history, captaining the team in 2006 in Germany.
Now, the 52-year-old returns as Trinidad and Tobago looks to reach the 2026 World Cup in North America.
“I am proud and privileged to receive the honor of leading the Trinidad and Tobago national team,” Yorke said in a statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA). “The opportunity to work with this talented, close-knit group of players is something I look forward to.
“Having helped Trinidad and Tobago to the semifinals of the Concacaf Gold Cup in 2000, captained the side at the 2006 World Cup and been assistant manager, my love and commitment to my national team is well documented.
“I saw first-hand as a player how working together to achieve our targets brought joy and united our country. I see that same ambition and desire at all levels of the current set-up.”
T&T is currently in the second round of Concacaf qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, and could seal a place in the next round with a win over Saint Kitts and Nevis on June 6.
“Dwight’s experience, leadership, and commitment to the red, white, and black are exactly what we need to inspire our players and our nation,” TTFA president Kieron Edwards said.
Most recently, Yorke served as head coach of Australian A-League side Macarthur FC, which he departed in January 2023.
