A Trinidadian man wanted in the United States for murder and other serious offences, has been arrested during a joint intelligence-led operation conducted in the central division on Wednesday.

A local intelligence unit received information from an international source that sometime in January 2024, the suspect, a Trinidad and Tobago national, and a resident of the US, was wanted by US authorities for the offences of murder, robbery with aggravation, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm to endanger life and possession of ammunition to endanger life.

The offences stem from a September 2021 incident during which the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm resulting in a victim’s death. It is further alleged that the suspect then fled the US in October 2021, bound for Trinidad.

The US subsequently obtained an indictment against the suspect relating to the offences. This process was received in Trinidad and Tobago, through the Mutual Legal Assistance (MLAT) via the Attorney General’s Central Authority Office and in July 2024, the local intelligence unit obtained a copy of the Provisional Warrant for the Arrest and Extradition of the Suspect.

The local intelligence unit immediately acted on information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect and after lengthy periods of surveillance in the south and central divisions, an exercise was conducted on Wednesday.

During the exercise, the suspect was apprehended in the Cunupia district and the Extradition warrant executed on him.
