Trinidad’s Hasely Crawford Stadium to close for repairs starting September 20

Trinidad & Tobago’s iconic Hasely Crawford Stadium will close its doors to public events and activities starting September 20 to undergo essential repairs, including upgrades to its athletic track and playing field, the Sports Company of Trinidad & Tobago Limited (SporTT) announced on Thursday.

This upgrade comes as Trinidad & Tobago prepares to host the prestigious CARIFTA Games in 2025, a premier Caribbean age-group track and field competition, for the first time in 20 years. The stadium, named after Trinidad’s first Olympic gold medallist Hasely Crawford, has long served as a key venue for both national and regional events.

“SporTT apologizes for any inconvenience caused to regular users of the stadium,” the statement read. “In the interim, sporting organizations and athlete training will be facilitated at other venues and under the ambit of SporTT.”

While the repairs are underway, athletes and sports organizations will be redirected to alternative venues, with the goal of minimizing disruption to training and other sporting activities. The upgrades to Hasely Crawford Stadium are expected to enhance the quality of facilities available for local and international events, ensuring that the venue remains a world-class sporting facility.
