TTMS issues hazardous seas alert-yellow for Tobago

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a hazardous sea alert–yellow level.

In an update on Thursday, the TTMS noted that the alert would come into effect from 11pm Saturday until 11pm on Sunday.

The TTMS explained that long period northerly and north-easterly swells are expected to produce large breakers to affect near-shore northern and eastern coastal areas of Tobago and Trinidad (to a lesser extent).

It said although the event is expected to be short-lived, impacts include battering waves, exacerbated at high tides, along affected shorelines. Near-shore activities including fishing, swimming and boat moorings can be disrupted.

The TTMS said all marine interests should monitor near-shore sea conditions and exercise extra caution along affected coasts.
