TTPS condemns ‘brazen attack’ at St James Medical Complex
The Police Service has “strongly condemned” the shooting incident at the St. James Medical Complex earlier today, in which an employee lost his life.
The condemnation and assurances that justice will prevail came in an official statement issued a short while ago, in which the TTPS confirmed that investigations are ongoing into the homicide that occurred at hospital’s premises.
“The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service strongly condemns the brazen attack that claimed the life of Jamal Watts at the St. James Medical Complex. Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators are on the ground and investigations have begun,” the TTPS release said.
The Police Service also is asking the public’s assistance with the probe.
“We are committed to bringing those responsible to justice and urge anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.”
The statement provided a summary of what occurred at the St James Medical Complex, today:
“At approximately 10:30 am on 4th August 2024, Jamal Watts, 31, a maintenance worker at the St. James Medical Complex, was cutting grass at the rear of the compound when he was approached by two masked assailants. One of the individuals was armed with a rifle and the other with a shotgun. The attackers fired several shots at Watts before fleeing the scene in a silver Hyundai Accent.”
The TTPS reported: “Watts collapsed and was taken into the medical facility by staff for treatment. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.”
“The scene was attended and processed by officers from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations and the Crime Scene Investigations Unit,” the release added.
