Two more killed

Two men were killed in separate incidents in Morvant, taking the murder rate to 433.

The men were gunned down hours apart on Friday.

In the first incident, the victim was identified as Josiah Reid, 25, of Second Caledonia, Morvant. Quacy Emmanuel, 39, of Comprehensive Road, Malick, was the second to be killed after purchasing marijuana.

Police were on a mobile patrol around 7.30 am when they received a report of a shooting at Second Caledonia.

On arrival, they saw Reid lying on the roadway in a pool of blood. Several spent shell 9 mm casings were also observed on the scene.

The police heard that following the shooting, two armed men were seen entering a white Toyota Aqua vehicle which they used to escape.

Reid was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he later died.

Around 6.30 pm officers of the Northern Eastern Division Gang and Intelligence Unit and Morvant Police Station were on mobile patrol when they responded to a shooting at Pitch Road, Lady Young Road, where they observed Emmanuel lying motionless covered in blood.

Investigations revealed the deceased left his girlfriend’s home at Lady Young Road upstairs Right Stop Tyre Shop to purchase marijuana at Pitch Road but was ambushed and killed by gunmen.

One person also sustained a gunshot wound to his buttocks.

Police recovered 14 5.56 spent shells near Emmanuel’s body.
