UCV, USB and UCAB among the 100 best universities in Latin America

The Central University of Venezuela (UCV)Simón Bolívar University (USB) and the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB) are on the list of the 100 houses of higher education with highest quality in Latin America and the Caribbean, according to the most recent measurement by the QS Quacquarelli Symonds higher education network.

In the 2025 edition of the Latin America & The Caribbean University Ranking, Quacquarelli Symonds included 437 universities, from Mexico to Argentina, evaluated based on criteria such as academic reputation, reputation among employers, staff of professors and researchers with PHD, ratio of students per faculty, impact on the web, international research network, research works by faculty and citations of academic works.

The national ranking is headed by the UCV and the USB, which occupied the first and second positions in the country and the 34th and 51st positions in the subcontinent, respectively. UCAB occupies third place nationally and 72nd place in the region.

Completing the national top 5 are the University of Los Andes, ULA, in fourth place and 81st in Latin America; and the University of Zulia (LUZ), in fifth national and 145th regional.

The rest of the institutions included in the 2025 list are the Metropolitan University (sixth in Venezuela and 151-160 in the region); the University of Carabobo (seven nationally and 191-200 in Latin America); the Technological University of the Center (eighth place in the country and 351-400 regionally); and the Rafael Belloso Chacín University, (ninth in Venezuela and +401 in the region).

Brazil heads the list of best universities in Latin America

Brazil, Chile and Mexico continue to dominate the QS Latin American rankingsince 8 of the 10 best study houses in the subcontinent are located in these countries.

“The latest QS Latin America and Caribbean University Rankings 2025 reinforces a stable hierarchy in higher education in the region, with no new entries in the top 20. Brazil continues to lead, with institutions such as the Universidade de São Paulo excelling in research production, cross-border collaboration and academic reputation,” said Ben Sowter, Senior Vice President at QS.

The Universidade de Sao Paulo (Brazil) is number one, followed by the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (position two); the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Brazil), in position three; the Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico) in fourth and the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in fifth.

Completing the Top 10 are the University of Chile, in sixth; the University of Los Andes (Colombia), in seventh; UNESP (Brazil), in eighth place; the National Autonomous University of Mexico (9th place) and the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) in tenth place.
