The government of Uruguay recommended this Wednesday that its citizens avoid or postpone any trip to Venezuela, considering that the current reality of the country is characterized “by impediments to the free movement of people.”

In a statement shared on social networks, the Foreign Ministry mentioned that different international institutions have denounced and condemned ยซprofuse cases of arbitrary arrests and kidnappings by the authorities and organized non-state groups.

He also explained that at the moment the whereabouts of a Uruguayan are unknownresident in the United States, who traveled to the Caribbean country on October 19. “No official information has been received despite repeated requests.”

He assured that this situation generates “great uncertainty” about the current state of the aforementioned citizen and about the “safety of our compatriots who travel to Venezuela.”

And he concluded: “The expulsion of Uruguayan diplomats from Venezuelan territory determined by the regime also implies additional limitations to provide comprehensive consular assistance and emergency services to fellow citizens.”
