US citizen robbed in Laventille responding to Facebook ad

A Fort Lauderdale businessman was robbed in Laventille after responding to a Facebook Marketplace ad.

Police said the 42-year-old, self-employed man visited Laventille Road, Morvant, near Chinapoo Community Centre on Tuesday at 2.40 pm to purchase scrap gold. Police said two armed men accosted him, stealing a backpack containing TT$100,000, US$8,500, and personal items, including his wallet, credit cards, driver’s permit, and a US passport.

Officers, led by Corporal Ramkissoon, responded to the scene, recovering the stolen backpack along with all the documents except the cash.

Investigations are continuing.
