During an interview with the state channel VTV, the minister indicated that the plan, created in 2012, has been being updated for more than a year.

“We are doing an update (…) as a result of climate changes, how everything that is the mobility of our species has changed, how we have increased in invasive species,” said Lorca.

He stated that the government aspires to work jointly with other countries that, with Venezuela, are part of the Amazon region (Brazil and Colombia), with which the official hopes that “a joint protocol” will be established for the protection of the species. .

«We are one of the 17 megadiverse countries. By having greater diversity we have greater responsibility. Before the world we propose a joint strategy with our sister Amazonian countries,” he expressed.

COP16 will be held for the first time in Colombia between October 21 and November 1, where conferences will be held in order to take decisive measures for the protection of biological diversity.
