Hundreds of Venezuelans traveled this Saturday, aboard motorcycles and bicycles, through several streets of Caracas to complete the call ‘Lola Route’in order to raise awareness about breast cancer, considered the leading cause of oncological death in women in the South American country.

Regarding the World Day to Fight Breast Cancerthe NGO Seno Salud organized, for the fourth consecutive year, this activity that seeks to raise money to help patients who cannot pay for treatments.

Furthermore, as he remarked -in statements to EFE– the president of the NGO, Ludmila Calvo, It is an opportunity to raise awareness among the population about the high incidence of this disease throughout the world, which is why he called on people, including men, to perform self-examination.

He explained that, for women over 35 years of age, having an annual mammogram is “the first ally” to achieve an early diagnosis and, from there, increase the chances of treating and overcoming the condition.

According to Seno Salud estimates, about 20 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in the country every day.

This Saturday’s rally and caravan was attended mainly by women, from teenagers to older adults, almost all of them dressed in pink, who showed messages inviting them to be aware of breast health.

Armeni Díaz, one of the participants, joined her bicycle to support the initiative and share her own message as a survivor, after having been diagnosed in 2015.

«We have to listen to our body, it speaks to usof these situations it warns us in time and, by having time, it gives us the opportunity to react and be able to fight the disease and celebrate,” the 55-year-old woman told EFE.
