The Vente Venezuela party, led by Maria Corina Machadodenounced this Sunday the arrest of its political secretary in the state of Miranda, Luis Istúriz, and his wife, Andriuska Sánchez, whose whereabouts the organization claims to be unknown since this Saturday, when they were arrested «by the regime».

Through social media, the Vente Venezuela Human Rights Committee also warned that this Sunday “at least six SEBIN (Bolivarian Intelligence Service) officials entered their residence,” located on the Guarenas – Guatire road, although it did not give details of this alleged operation in the couple’s home.

«We demand an end to repression and persecution in Venezuela“We hold the regime and its repressive bodies responsible for anything that may happen to Luis and his wife, Andriuska,” said the committee, which also requested information on the whereabouts of Istúriz and Sánchez.

Machado, who shared this complaint, called on the international community on Saturday to hold Nicolás Maduro accountable for «the unleashed repression»especially after the elections of July 28.

According to official figures, more than 2,400 people have been arrested since July 29 – some in demonstrations and others in police operations – while 25 people have died in acts of violence that the government attributes to the opposition, while the opposition blames the state security forces, on orders from their superiors.

The protests came after the National Electoral Council (CNE) declared Maduro’s victory in the elections, a result questioned inside and outside the country and rejected by the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), which insists that the winner was its standard-bearer, Edmundo González Urrutia.

This Saturday, the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, after warning that “Only complete and independently verifiable results will be accepted and recognized”urged the authorities of the Caribbean country to “respect the right of all Venezuelans to demonstrate peacefully and freely express their political opinions without fear of reprisals.”

They must also “refrain from using excessive force, end repression and harassment of the opposition and civil society, and release all political prisoners,” he added.

Twenty-eight days after the elections, the CNE has still not published the disaggregated results of the presidential elections, which the PUD considers a sign of “fraud.”
