Victim chases after robbers, gets shot at

A 23-year-old man was shot while attempting to chase after a man who robbed him.

The incident took place at 11:30pm on Friday along Harris Street in San Fernando.

The victim, a Venezuelan national, was liming with some friends when they were confronted by two men.

One of the suspects had a gun.

The victims were relieved of their cash and valuables – including $10,800 which represented a sou sou hand –  and the suspects fled the scene on foot.

However, two of the victims chased after the thieves to retrieve the stolen items.

The armed man turned around and shot at the two pursuers, hitting the 23-year-old in the right leg.

The victim fell to the ground and the suspects fled the scene.

The police were notified and a team of officers led by PC Moses responded.

The injured man was conveyed to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was treated.

Eleven spent shells were found at the scene of the shooting along with eight live 9mm rounds.
