The Popular Will party (VP) said this Friday that the investigation against opposition leader María Corina Machado is a “new excuse for the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro to stop her,” after the Prosecutor’s Office began this process by pointing out that the former representative supported a bill approved by the United States House of Representatives.

“We alert the international community that this is a new excuse for the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro to persecute and detain the democratic leader of Venezuelans,” VP said through X.

The Public Ministry (MP, Prosecutor’s Office) maintained that it initiated this investigation against Machado to be charged “for her promotion and support” of the United States Senate bill that prohibits US government institutions from hiring people or companies that have commercial ties. with the Maduro Executive.

Likewise, the MP affirmed that the statements that Machado has made in favor of this bill constitute the commission of the crimes of “treason to the country”, conspiracy with foreign countries, as well as association to commit a crime.

“The investigation against Machado is a farce”

VP, which he described as a “farce” In this investigation, he stated that the Prosecutor’s Office acts as “the judicial arm of the dictatorship”, which is why – he added – “any supposed investigation or decision has no credibility or legal basis.”

On Wednesday, Machado predicted consequences for the Maduro government for this bill, although the rule must be approved by the Senate for it to become effective.
