A 38-year-old man had to seek medical attention after his vehicle tumbled down a cliff in Tobago while trying to flee from gunmen.

According to police reports, at 3pm on Sunday, the victim was driving his white Hyundai H100 van along Dunvegan Road, Whim, when he stopped to give a ride to a man who requested to go to Scarborough.

Shortly after getting in, the passenger asked to stop. When the vehicle halted, the suspect pulled a gun and attempted to rob the driver.

Fearing for his life, the driver reversed the vehicle and attempted to flee.

The suspect fired shots but was thrown from the van during the escape.

The driver continued speeding away but lost control and hit a roadside structure, causing the van to overturn multiple times and plummet about 20 feet down a cliff.

After escaping the wreck, the driver heard further gunshots and ran for safety.

He later contacted the police, and officers from the Tobago Division, led by PC Phillip and PC Roach, arrived at the scene.

Spent shell casings were discovered, and investigations are ongoing under PC Phillip’s supervision.
