The president of the Venezuelan Federation of Teachers (FVM), Carmen Teresa Márquez, He asserted that there is “a lot of expectation” for the start of the school year in the country, because the previous one “was not favorable for children nor the teachers.”

“We started a school year with a large shortage of teachers in the different schools of the country. I don’t know what the Ministry is going to do to fill these vacancies (…) We are in an educational crisis, we ended in a crisis and we started in a crisis due to the lack of teachers and salaries,” Márquez said in the Buenos Días program on VPItv.

He added that the FVM believes that “with the arrival of the new minister, Héctor Rodríguez, we expect a meeting to restart collective bargaining and discuss teachers’ salaries and social security.”

“We propose (a salary) equal to or a little less than the food basket, that is, between 300 and 400 dollars. We are confident that we can discuss collective bargaining with this minister,” he said.
