Webster displays Super 50 form

Tion Webster showed early form in the first trial matchj organised by the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) as preparation for the Regional Super 50 Tournament at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, San Fernando, yesterday.

The right-handed batter smashed 77 from 71 balls as the Bryan Charles XI scored 225 for 5 in response to Joshua Da Silva XI’s 159 all out. Despite reaching the target of 160 in the 27th over, the Charles XI batted throughout the 40 overs to give the batsmen batting practice.

Joshua Da Silva won the toss and chose to bat first. They quickly lost Jordan Warner (0), Cephas Cooper (7) and Isaiah Rajah (6) as they were pegged back to 16 for three in the 6th over.

Vikash Mohan joined his skipper and together they put on 76 runs for the 4th wicket.

Da Silva scored 49 not out with three sixes, and Mohan scored 38 with six fours.

Wickets continued to fall as Silva XI were bowled in 36.5 overs.

Shaaron Lewis was the best bowler with two for 17, Jayden Seales took two for 24 and Yannic Cariah took two for 28.

In reply, Kjorn Ottley (0) departed at 0-0 but Amir Jangoo and Tion Webster put on 136 for the second wicket.

Webster added seven fours to his three sixes in his 77 and Jangoo added six fours and two sixes in his 59.

Veteran middle order batsman Jason Mohammed scored 19, while other contributors were Cariah (25 not out) and Daniel Williams (28 not out) as the Bryan Charles XI reached 225 for 5 as they batted out their 40 overs.

The date for the second trial match is yet to be determined.

The Trinidad and Tobago Red Force are the reigning champions and will open their defence of the Regional Super 50 against Combined Campuses and Colleges on October 29th.
