The Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (CICPC) announced that will cancel the Ad Honorem credential from August 31, through a statement published on the social network Instagram.

“CICPC informs that as of this date, the AD HONOREM credentials granted by the human resources office of this investigative body are annulled,” states the statement published by Douglas Rico, general director of the police force.

In the same statement, the security agency urged citizens who possess such credentials to return them without offering further details.

“Citizens who have them are called upon to hand them over to the office.”the statement concluded.

What is it and to whom is the Ad Honorem credential awarded?

The types of Ad Honorem credentials are recognitions that are given to citizens for their honor and that they are not necessarily part of or part of the police force. However, the call by the general director to those who have them to return them, generated doubts among Internet users who expressed their opinions through social networks about the reason for this measure.

The use of these credentials is regulated and controlled by the Cicpc, and are awarded to individuals who demonstrate a good reputation, experience or skills that can be useful for the body.

It is worth noting that improper use of credentials may have legal consequences because, according to queries from websites linked to security, these should only be used for activities and functions authorized by the police agency.

These credentials allow the holders to carry out certain activities on behalf of the CICPC, such as investigations, technical assistance or collaboration in specific events, but without having the same rights, benefits or responsibilities as a regular official.

Cicpc, the former Technical Judicial Police

The CICPC was created in early 2001 from the transformation of the former Technical Corps of Judicial Police (PTJ), which was established in 1958. The reorganization and creation of the CICPC was carried out with the objective of improving and modernizing the country’s criminal investigation capabilities, focusing on scientific and technical methods for solving crimes.

This security body is responsible for the investigation of criminal offenses in Venezuela and its main objective is to carry out criminal investigations through scientific techniques and specialized expert reports. In addition, it is divided into various specialized divisions and departments, which address different types of crimes, from homicides and robberies to cybercrime and drug trafficking.
