Mike Lubbock, described as “the finest aviculturist on the planet,” has died. Lubbock, executive director and co-founder of Sylvan Heights Bird Park in Scotland Neck, North Carolina, passed away on September 7.

Members of the Pointe-a-Pierre Wildfowl Trust, in extending condolences, said they are “full of sorrow and fond memories for all the work and support” from Lubbock.

“We send our deepest condolences to the whole team at Sylvan Heights Bird Park. To Ali, Brent, and Katie. We shall miss him.”

He started one of the first breeding and release centres in our hemisphere.

The trust said some of our locally endangered waterfowl had become extinct until Sylvan Heights Bird Park returned some to them, “which we have then bred and released back into our natural spaces in Trinidad and Tobago.”
