‘Wining bandit’ winds up behind bars

Keen observation by officers of the Guard and Emergency Branch (GEB) led to the arrest of a woman allegedly involved in an unconventional incident of theft, which occurred in Port of Spain on Thursday.

At approximately 2pm on 15th August 2024, a man, 62, made a $2,700 withdrawal from a bank located at Independence Square, Port of Spain. After securing the cash in his back pocket, he proceeded to a nearby fast-food restaurant, to visit a friend.

As the man was about to leave the restaurant, an unknown woman approached him, and she began to engage the man in an unsolicited and bizarre encounter. She allegedly began to gyrate on the man, rubbing her hands and hugging him all over his body, while enquiring about the welfare of his family.

The interaction lasted for about ten minutes.

Following the unexpected interaction, the man discovered that the money he had withdrawn was missing from his pocket. Realizing he had been a victim of theft, he promptly reported the incident.

During a mobile patrol in the Port of Spain area on Friday, a Guard and Emergency Branch team, comprising Cpl Gerald, PC Boyce, PC Andrews, and WPC Pantor, observed a woman fitting the description of the suspect.

The woman was immediately apprehended, taken into police custody and was later identified by the victim.

Investigations are continuing.
