As Tobago prepares for its Carnival celebration, Jacqueline Wayne, the mother of Sarah Smith, is pleading with Tobago to remember that there are still unanswered questions surrounding the deaths of her daughter and grandchildren.

Sarah Smith, originally from Trinidad, and her two children, Genuine and Phoenix, were found dead at the bottom of a decommissioned WASA tank in Parlatuvier, last month. An autopsy revealed they all died from severe blunt force trauma to the head.

Their deaths are being treated as murder, but the case has yet to be officially reclassified. Wayne told Guardian Media she fears she may never see justice for her family. “I need closure. My family needs closure. We have more questions than answers, and it hurts every day. I want to know where the investigation stands. Is it even being investigated? Please remember Sarah and my grandbabies.”

Wayne said that while she does not wish to interfere with police inquiries, she wants reassurance that the Tobago police will leave no stone unturned.

“As everyone in Tobago prepares to celebrate Carnival, I’m asking the country, the police, all Tobagonians, and politicians to please not forget my daughter and her children, and what they went through.”
She is concerned that the case might soon go cold, with no one left to turn to for help.
