Woman swept away by the Merey River dies

The heavy rains that hit the Ribero municipality, in the state of Sucre, caused the Merey River to flood, claiming the life of Jositis Coromoto Mariño (40). The woman died after saving her two children, ages 11 and 8, on Friday, October 18.

The community reported the disappearance of Mariño when he was trying to rescue another child from the riverbut was carried away by the current. She was found shortly after and taken to the outpatient clinic, but had died from immersion.

Mariño suffered multiple blows from the impact of stones and logs dragged by the current.

The report of National Risk Management System confirmed that the east of the country was affected by heavy rains that caused the river to flood. Firefighters and Civil Protection responded to the scene to provide assistance.

At the beginning of October, Heavy rainfall caused flooding in parts of Sucre and Nueva Espartaespecially affecting the Montes and Bermúdez municipalities.

The authorities have not yet issued an official statement about the incident, so the information circulating was provided by the citizens themselves through social networks.

Apartment explosion in Guanta left at least 11 injured

At least 11 people were injured after the explosion and subsequent fire in an apartment of tower 10 of the Parque Guaraguao residential complex, located adjacent to the Bolipuerto Guanta, in the state of Anzoátegui, during the night of October 17.

The governor of the entity, Luis Marcano, explained that the 11 people who were injured were transferred to health centers, four of them with severe burns.

The emergency was attended by marine firefighters and Civil Protection (PC) from Guanta, who controlled the fire almost an hour after the explosion occurred, while providing help to the injured neighbors.

The apartment where the explosion occurred showed damage throughout its structurewhile the shock wave caused windows, doors, walls and bars of nearby residences to explode and reached vehicles parked in the parking lot.
