Woods whips ‘em’ at Awards
National cyclist Tariq Woods wrote his name into the T&T Cycling Federation’s history book as the top Elite rider after five Road Challenge Series events for 2024.
At the awards ceremony at Tamana E-Teck Park, Wallerfield over the weekend (September 14-15), the 22-year-old cyclist, as well as all the other riders, were rewarded by the cycling federation for their hard work. Woods though had the title secured since after the third challenge series, having won the first three of the five-race of the series programme in July and August.
A national standout, Woods of the Evolution Cycling Academy, expectedly took the top award by accumulating a maximum of 34 points to hold off the Heatwave pair of Enrique de Comarmond (27 points) for the top prize and third place Josias Velasquez (12 points).
Meanwhile, the Madonna Wheelers duo of Salome Bayley and Orion Dandrade secured the Youth Development titles in the Under-7 age bracket in contrasting fashions. Bayley, due to her dominance, was all alone in the category, securing 15 points, while Dandrade’s field was minimised to two for the awards, which he prevailed in over Darius St John of Rigtech Sonics (3 points).
