World Lung Cancer Day and its incidence in Venezuela
Juan Saavedrageneral manager of the Anticancer Society of Venezuela (SAV), warned that by the end of the year more than 5,800 new cases of lung cancer could be detected.
He emphasized the importance of generating general awareness about the seriousness of the cancer in all its forms, especially the most deadly ones such as lung cancer, in the context of commemorating World Lung Cancer Day this November 17.
This date seeks to raise awareness about one of the most lethal and common cancers worldwide.
According to the SAV, the detection of cases of this type of cancer increased more than 28% in the last eight yearsreviewed Union Radio.
They warn that in Venezuela lung cancer occupies second place in causes of death, both in men and women.
«A fatality rate of 0.82% in men and 0.97% in women. Lung cancer has increased in women“In the previous study, lung cancer was in third place and cervical cancer was in second place, which has just moved to third place,” said Saavedra.
The expert suggested promoting measures to reduce the high cancer mortality rate in the country, which exceeds 30,000 cases annually.
