Yorke’s Soca Warriors beaten 3-1 in Saudi friendly
T&T’s Soca Warriors were beaten 3-1 by Saudi Arabia in their international friendly match at the Al Shabab Club Stadium in Riyadh Tuesday morning.
The game, played at 9.15 am T&T time, the equivalent of 4.15 pm Saudi Arabian time, was the country’s fourth meeting between the teams and first under new coach Dwight Yorke, who took over from Angus Eve last month.
Having lost twice to the Saudis in the past, the Warriors were facing their third when a 13th-minute penalty by Saleh Alshehre separated the teams at the half-time interval. The Warriors, minus several of their key players, were not at their best in defence, which they paid for.
Abdullah Alhamddan pushed the home team 2-0 up in the 53rd minute, and with two minutes to go before the conclusion of the chapter, Nasser Aldosari took the fight out of the Warriors with an 88th-minute goal for a 3-0 scoreline.
Yorke, relatively new to the task of coaching, having coached at Macarthur FC in the Australian A-League alone, was given hope when Jamal Jack netted a consolation item in the 90+4 minute that saved their blushes.
On Monday, Yorke told the media the match would help him assess the players ahead of the CONCACAF Gold Cup and FIFA World Cup Qualifiers next year.
